Catnip Seed

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-02-20

Here are seeds of catnip (Nepeta cataria), a perennial plant in the mint family. Native from eastern Europe to central Asia, it is naturalized in North America and New Zealand. Between two thirds to 80 percent of cats are highly attracted to it because of it's main essential oil ingredient, nepetalactone. Tea from the leaves and stems is used to treat anxiety, indigestion and insomnia. The seed size is about 0.7 by 1.3 mm.

Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with 49 mm long extension tube.
