Green Mountain from NCAR, 1/28/2006
Parking at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), we started hiking at 11:00 going up the NCAR trail to the Mallory Cave Trail intersection where we turned left and went down to Bear Canyon Creek. The trail intersection with the Bear Canyon Creek Trail is the lowest elevation of the hike (see GPS data below). We went west on the Bear Canyon Creek Trail for 2 miles to the intersection of the Green Bear Trail and the Bear Peak Trail. This is on the saddle of Green Mtn and Bear Peak. We turned right onto the Green Bear Trail and ascended the short and steep 0.8 miles to the summit of Green Mountain, getting there at 12:56. We returned the same way we had come, getting back to the NCAR parking lot at 15:25.
It took us 1 hour and 56 minutes to reach the summit of Green Mountain from our parking place at NCAR. The elevation difference from lowest to highest point is 8147 ft - 6093 ft = 2054 feet.
