Hallett Peak (12,713 ft, 3,875 meters), 07/26/2003
Parking the truck at the shuttle bus parking area, we took the 7:00 shuttle bus up to Bear Lake, and started hiking at 7:19. Doing the standard route, we took the Flattop Mountain trail up, reaching the continental divide at 9:06. We got to the Hallett Peak summit at 9:28. Surprisingly, there was nobody up there, and for the hour that we stayed there, no one showed up. We left the summit at 10:30, and on the way down, we passed hundreds of people making their way up. On the return, we did NOT take the bus back, but instead hiked down to Bierstadt Lake and then took the trail back to the shuttle bus parking area. We returned to the truck at 14:30, just as a drenching thunderstorm began.
