Celery Seed

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-01-01

This is the inaugural post of our Macro and Micro Picture of the Day.

Today's picture is celery seed. Wikipedia says the seeds are broad ovoid to globose, 1.5-2 mm (0.059-0.079 in) long and wide. The 0.5 mm pencil lead on the left of the image roughly supports that statement. Celery seed comes from the ancestor of the celery plant, called lovage (Levisticum officinale). It is used in Ayurveda medicine, and it's use as a pain treatment was described by Aulus Cornelius Celsus around the year 30 AD.

Equipment used: modified Logitech webcam model V-UBE43.
