Table Salt

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-01-02

Today's picture is ordinary table salt (sodium chloride). The brand is Morton Iodized Salt. In addition to the salt, the ingredients include calcium silicate (anticaking agent), dextrose, and potassium iodide. The crystals all appear rather similar in size, a bit smaller than the 0.5 mm pencil lead shown. Why are the crystals so similar in size? If you know the answer, please leave a comment.

Equipment used: modified Logitech webcam model V-UBE43.
