Today's picture is friction ridges on a human finger, whose impressions produce fingerprints. According to a paper in the Journal of Forensic Identification, the distance between fingerprint ridges for males ranges between 0.2 and 0.85 mm, and for females, it goes from 0.2 to 0.75 mm. The mean ridge to ridge distance for males was 0.46 mm, and for females 0.41 mm.
