Juniper Branch Shoot

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-01-09

This is a Rocky Mountain Juniper (Juniperus scopulorum) branch shoot. Above is a 0.5 mm diameter pencil lead for scale. A tree of western North America, some in New Mexico are thought to be over 2000 years old. Northwest Indian tribes have treated coughs and fevers by boiling the leaves and inner bark.

Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with 49 mm long extension tube.
