Here is lichen that grows in Moraine Park of Rocky Mountain National Park. Wikipedia says that lichen is not a plant, but a composite organism consisting of algae or cyanobacteria living with a mutualistic relationship with fungi. The cup-like structures are called apothecia and is where spores are produced. About 6% of the Earth's surface is covered by lichen, and there are about 20,000 known species.
