Another weed that heralds the arrival of spring on the Colorado Front Range is dandelion (Taraxacum officinale). In this picture you can see some of the jagged edge of the leaf, which gave the plant its name derived from the French words for "lion's tooth". The entire plant is edible, and the roasted root make for a wonderful tea.
