Here is a red kidney bean, a type of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). The red kidney bean is just one of several kinds of kidney beans, including cannellini (white), red speckled, and light speckled. Red kidney beans and cannellini beans contain high amounts of the toxin phytohaemagglutinin which needs to be destroyed prior to eating, by boiling the beans for at least 10 minutes.
