Common Mullein Seed

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-04-02

Here is the seed of common mullein. The seeds are tiny, about 0.5 mm long, with a unique look, like corn cobs. The plant is native to Europe and North Africa, and was introduced to North America in the 1700's. Its velvety leaves have been used to line shoes, and smoked to relieve lung problems. The ground up seeds have been used to poison fish in order to catch them.

Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a standard zoom lens (EF-S 18-55 mm) on a 49 mm long extension tube.
