Red Yam

Macro and Micro Picture of the Day 2020-04-05

Here is the flesh of a red yam, or so it's called in the United States, but it's really a sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas). It is native to the tropical Americas and has been cultivated for at least 5,000 years. The darker orange the sweet potato flesh is, the more beta-carotene it has.

Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a standard zoom lens (EF-S 18-55 mm) on a 49 mm long extension tube.
