Douglas Fir Cone
Here is a Douglas fir cone. A Native American story says that the strange structures on this cone are due to mice seeking protection from a great fire, which killed all trees in the forest but the Douglas fir, thanks to its fire resistant bark.
Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a standard zoom lens (EF-S 18-55 mm).
