Here is the seed of showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), at 40x magnification, found growing in the vicinity of Longmont, Colorado. Fresh seeds of showy milkweed like this one need to be put in the refrigerator at 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4.4 Celsius) for 3 months before they can sprout.
