Escaping The Nutshell

We started at the Sandbeach Lake Trailhead at the entrance to Wild Basin on May 13, 2026. There was snow on the trail, but not much of a hindrance with hiking boots. But above Sandbeach Lake it got really deep. Distance is about 4.5 miles one way. Elevation change from trailhead (8583 ft, 2618 m) to our perch above Sandbeach Lake (10,600 ft, 3233 m) is 2,017 ft (615 m).
