Escaping The Nutshell

On the hot morning of July 13, 2026 we started up the St Vrain Mountain Trail from the St Vrain Mountain Trailhead. It’s a 3000 foot (914 meters) climb, and the sweating was intense but we got rewarded at the top with temperatures in the lower 60’s (17 celsius). The distance from the trailhead to the summit is about 5 miles, and it took us 2.5 hours to get to the top. We’ll blame the slowness on the heat.
