Here is a lichen growing vertically on a rock in the Lumpy Ridge area of Rocky Mountain National Park. This lichen appears to be a member of the species Pleopsidium flavum, a lichen that grows in western North America at high altitudes on felsic rock. There are about 20,000 species of lichens, with about 6% of the Earth's surface covered by them. This picture was taken on November 6, 2020.
