Here is a ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) cone found at Hall Ranch Open Space in the foothills of Boulder County, Colorado. Ponderosa pine cones are 3 to 6 inches (7.6 to 15.2 cm) long, and 2 to 4 inches (5.1 to 10.2 cm) wide. A cone takes two years to mature, and in the second year produces up to 70 seeds. This picture was taken on November 13, 2020.
Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a standard zoom lens (EF-S 18-55 mm).
