Patterns on Tree Log

Here are patterns on an old tree log whose bark has fallen off. We don't know what causes these patterns. This picture was taken on the north side of Cook Mountain on March 2, 2021 in the foothills of Boulder County, Colorado.

Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a standard zoom lens (EF-S 18-55 mm).
