Here are marsh marigold (Caltha leptosepala, synonym Psychrophila leptosepala) flowers in the forest of Colorado's Brainard Lake Recreation Area. These flowers show up in subalpine and alpine zones in the spring as soon as the melting snow reveals earth. This plant is known as a psychrophile, being able to grow at low temperatures.
