Here is a bouncing bet (Saponaria officinalis) flower in the Lefthand OHV area of Boulder County, Colorado. This plant has been used for soap as it produces a lather when in water. Its name comes from English barmaids, called "Bets" who would clean bottles by putting a sprig of the plant in the bottle with water, then shaking it. It is considered an invasive weed in Colorado, and is poisonous. This photo was taken on August 14, 2021.
