Here is a California Tortoiseshell butterfly (Nymphalis californica) which we met on the first day of Spring (March 20, 2022) in Lefthand Canyon of Boulder County, Colorado. Apparently, more common in California, they are said to emerge in late winter in the foothill canyons of California.
Equipment used: Canon EOS Rebel T5i with a telephoto lens (EFS 55-250 mm).
